Carluccio's joins Glasgow's Italian restaurants

Pasta master Antonio Carluccio

The first Carluccio’s restaurant in Scotland has its official opening this week on a former bank site in West Nile Street.

The chain was established in London in 1991 by the chef, author and restaurateur Antonio Carluccio. Carluccio himself hasn’t been directly part of the company for a while but he still contributes ideas and menu developments.

An Italian restaurant, caffè and food shop, Carluccio’s will be open right through the day for Italian coffee and breakfast through to three-course evening meals with wine.

In the restaurant, diners can look forward to everything from antipasti and fresh handmade pasta, to seasonal fish, meat and vegetarian mains and decadent desserts, many based on Antonio Carluccio’s original recipes.

Glasgow has a rep for being a curry-loving city but, if you don’t count takeaways, I reckon that there are nearly as many Italian restaurants in town as there are Indians.

You can browse and book 5pm’s Italian restaurants here and the 5pm Indian restaurants here.
