Spotted! Around this time of year there is always a fine crop of sprouts stories in the papers. Usually, these consist of ‘Sprout drought shocker horror!’ headlines.
Here is one from last year and one from the year before. The Daily Mail often manages to work in a neat headline about Brussels shortages threatening the Great British Christmas dinner.
By contrast, today’s Telegraph has a rather gentle piece with one of M&S’ food boffins about exciting developments in the vegetable world. Red sprouts? No cry onions? Whatever next? Well, possibly sprouts that don’t cause flatulence.
No, really.
