Feel pee to play

[][1]
No, you can't pee in peace

The blog is almost sad today because it won’t be able to attend a media invite in Balham this afternoon to witness a demonstration of the world’s first pee-controlled video game.

A company, aptly called Captive Media, have developed a hands-free gaming/advertising system that allows users to play video games while standing at urinals. The game is controlled by directing what the press release coyly refers to as ‘gents’ streams’.

Apparently, the average bloke spends 55 seconds standing at the urinal; a period of time equivalent to two TV ad slots. If you are an advertiser, then time spent staring fixedly at the toilet tiles instead of being cajoled into buying something is time wasted.

This new system is being lauded as a revolutionary way to capture the attention of young men; a demographic that more traditinal advertising mediums find hard to reach.

Pub cleaners have welcomed the new devices as they have the knock-on effect of encouraging users to aim more carefully.

If memory serves, the Paramount Bar in Aberdeen used to (maybe it still does) have TV screens fitted in the urinals. The screens showed looped footage of Rangers football team.

Similarly, the Lismore in Partick has the names of various landlords responsible for the Clearances etched into the trough.

The blog wishes Captive Media the best of luck but can’t help feeling nostalgic for the days when scooshing the disinfectant block along the trough was the height of excitement during any toilet visit.
