Campfire cooking

So, it’s ‘Goodbye January’ and ‘Hello’ to what might be the first glimmers of spring on the horizon. Even if there’s a cold snap, it can’t last for long.

All of which means that  the Scottish Caravan & Outdoor Leisure Show must be about to circle its wagons again. In fact, the show runs at the SECC from tomorrow until Sunday 5th February.

As well as caravans and camping exhibs, gastronauts might want to pop along and see some of the cooking demos by John Graham McMahon, exec chef at the very swish Prestonfield House in Edinburgh.

As part of a new food hall, there will be four free demonstrations per day by chef McMahon, offering ideas for meals which you can create at home or while rolling along the highways and byways in your king of the road caravan.

The chef has had an interesting career in which he has cooked for everyone from Madonna and Robert DeNiro to a conclave of cardinals during the recent papal visit.

You can also sample and savour some of the world’s finest wines at the event.  Your host will be the Director and Head Tutor of Case Studies Wine School, Claire Blackler.

Lots of Scottish suppliers and producers will also be camping out in Hall 2 and showcasing the best of Scotland’s larder.

If Mr McMahon’s demos whet your appetite for his grub then check out Rhubarb’s 5pm offers. The restaurant at Prestonfield House is a hit with 5pm users with it currently rated a fine 4.4/5 by customers who have dined there.

They are currently running a three course table d’hote menu for £30 which you can check out here.
