New bars and restaurants

After lying dormant for a couple of years, Strata on Glasgow’s Queen Street is scheduled to swing back into life today.

They’ll be serving their new menu from 6.30pm. In its former incarnation, Strata was well known for its cocktails and the new bar looks set to continue that sterling work.

On the other side of the M8, Nanyang is a new Malaysian restaurant which has opened for business in the swanky Quartermile development. Their website isn’t up and running yet but we understand that it features Malaysian home cooking as well as dishes which fuse various South East Asia cooking styles.

Opposite the Playhouse, Pomegranate is replacing a long standing Italian restaurant. It promises street food from the Middle East and a shisha bar. We’ll bring you more news when it opens.

On nearby Broughton Street, The Bakehouse has re-opened after it was damaged by a fire last year.

Finally, just in case any of you missed yesterday’s Current Bun, here’s a belt-busting piece on the new 96 ounce steak which has just gone on sale in Glasgow’s Grill Room, part of 29 Royal Exchange Square.

Not including the trimmings, it weighs six pounds and costs £360 which must be paid in advance. Anyone who finishes the Big Yin in under an hour gets it for free along with a year’s membership of 29.

Good luck.
