It’s all go in Glasgow at the moment as the city’s restaurateurs and bar owners launch new venues in the run-up to the festive period.

One of the latest to start welcoming customers is Central Market, a new café, restaurant and deli, which has opened its doors on Bell Street in the Merchant City.

Way back in the early 19th century, fruit, vegetable and cheese markets were a thriving business in the area and they were known as ‘the central markets’; hence the new venture’s name.

Modern British

The chefs behind it are Andy Lambert and Neil Palmer, veterans of Urban Brasserie and Malmaison. They’ll be cooking up modern British dishes such as smoked trout with horse radish crème fraiche; ox cheek stew and roast ling with Jerusalem artichokes, clams and seaweed butter. A posh sandwich menu is available all day.

Local suppliers

Central Market has 50 covers will be open from 8am Monday to Friday; 10am on Saturday and Sunday. The deli area will be selling the full wine list available in the restaurant; artisan breads from Different Breid; coffee from Coffee Chocolate Tea, both local suppliers, and a range of oils and vinegars from A l’Olivier.
