Expand your mind – drink gin

Mind expansion and cocktails will be on the menu at the Hendrick’s Carnival of Knowledge

Well, I don’t know about you but the first weekend of the Fringe was a doozie for me. I’ve seen a cat on a skateboard jump thirteen London buses and witnessed a marriage proposal between audience members at Red Bastard’s show.

The next few days are looking equally as intriguing – not least because the Hendrick’s people are coming to town.

A few years back, the blog went doolally over the Hendrick’s Carriage of Curiosities, a sort of travelling charabanc filled with culinary madness.

This week, we’re looking forward to the Hendrick’s Carnival of Knowledge which runs Thu 8th-Sun 11th August.

Erotic writing

The Carney is taking over One Royal Circus for four days of cocktails, literary diversions, an erotic writing master class and a chat with the dead.

You can see the full programme here.

A couple of the events stood out for culinary reasons.

A Feast of Learning

On Saturday night, the kitchen team behind The Clove Club in Shoreditch are doing a pop-up which promises multiple curious courses, cocktails and entertainment. The reviews of the permanent restaurant make it sound both wonderful and fizzing mad – buttermilk chicken on pine twigs is certainly a new one for me.

Future lunch

I also liked the idea of Sunday lunch in 2063. What will be eating in fifty years time? Award-winning mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana (Mr Lyan) and Shay Ola, founder of the Rebel Dining Society, hope to find out on Sunday. One suspects that gin may be involved.

Serving Hendrick’s in ever more inventive ways, Hendrick’s Parlour Bar will be open throughout.
