Ardmore is the malt of the month at Aldi

Whisky lovers may be pleased to learn that Aldi’s whisky of the month for September is Ardmore. Every month, the supermarket chain is selling a single malt for significantly less than the RRP. This month, Aldi is selling Ardmore for £22.99 a bottle instead of the recommended £31.50. Ardmore is unusual in that it’s the only highland distillery that uses fully peated malt to make its whisky. Wild Turkey cocktail competition Readers may recall that the 5pm Dining blog reported back from a Wild Turkey master class a couple of months back. The event was held to help launch a bar tender’s cocktail competition using Wild Turkey. The regional heats kicked off on Monday 12th August at Luac Bar in Glasgow. Rosie Paterson of Voodoo Rooms and Will Cox of Bon Vivant, both in Edinburgh, both won through. The national final is being held today in The Liquorists HQ in Manchester ****in front of judges including Simon Difford of Diffords Guide, Martin Taylor of Wild Turkey, and Hugo Mills of Gruppo Campari. We’ll bring you news of the winner and the champion cocktail later in the week. Fingers crossed for a Scottish champion. Heineken for the Saga generation Lastly, just a quick link to an excellent blog post on The BeerCast. Apparently, Heineken have plans to market their beer to the over sixties. The blog’s author, Rich, has some strong views on the development. Although they aren’t as strong as those of Rich’s Dad whose colourful comments had me spluttering with laughter.
