Culinary exoticism

The UAE celebrity chef Khulood Atiq gives her seal of approval to Bobo Gelati

And so to Abu Dhabi where the Gourmet Abu Dhabi festival is currently taking place.

Apparently, the big hit of the festival is ice cream made with camel’s milk. Made in Abu Dhabi by the Bó and Abbatiello family of Venice, the Bobo Gelati comes in a range of flavours including date, lemon-mint and pistachio.

You can do your own jokes about ordering one hump or two.

Camel milk ice cream may sound very unconventional when you are sitting in the Central Belt but it’s perfectly normal in downtown Abu Dhabi.

Lactose intolerant

According to Chef Khulood Atiq: ‘It’s very good. I make my own ice-cream from camel’s milk and I think this is excellent for residents and visitors to try because camel’s milk is so healthy. It’s often easily digested by lactose-intolerant individuals and is rich in healthy vitamins and minerals, especially vitamins B and C and iron.’

To be honest, camel milk gelato sounds perfectly normal when compared with some of the other ice cream varieties which have gone on sale.

Who remembers the story about human milk ice cream being sold in Covent Garden?
