New restaurants in Glasgow

Wood-fired pizza ovens are helping fuel Paesano’s popularity.

New openings? We got ’em.

Lots going on in Glasgow at the moment.

Paesano Pizza

On Miller Street, Paesano Pizza have opened shop and are selling a short but thoughtful selection of wood-fired pizza made with sourdough and topped with fresh fiori di latte mozzarella from Teano in Campania.

The 5pm Dining blog is getting good reports. The blogo-Twittosphere appears to have gone into meltdown.

CAU

Sticking around that end of town, we hear whispers that CAU – an Argentine steakhouse – has plans to open on Ingram Street. There are already twelve branches of CAU in England and one in Amsterdam.

If the Glasgow branch does go ahead then it will be the first Scottish unit.

Marcello’s

Moving towards Charing X, Massimo’s appears to be changing into Marcello’s Restaurant. We’ll find out if the change is in name only or if there are broader developments afoot.

111 by Nico

Thoughtful presentation is key at 111 by Nico.

There is a lot of anticipation around the imminent, official launch of 111 by Nico.

Formerly the Simply Fish restaurant, the Cleveden Street restaurant remains in the hands of Nico Simeone but the menu has moved away from seafood to a sort of bang up to date modern British.

Menu items are simply described so a main course of cod is listed as COD: Herb crust / Sweetcorn / Chorizo / Olive tapenade

The presentation looks fantastic and, at £17 for two courses at dinner, the pricing is keen. The menus will change on a weekly basis.

As with several other recent, eye-catching ventures, there is a social aspect to 111 by Nico.

The business includes an Academy which aims to give people from a disadvantaged background a leg up and into the catering industry.

The official launch is scheduled for Thursday 20th August.
