New Glasgow & Edinburgh openings: Doghouse & Checkpoint

Game of Dog Bones: beer is coming.

A couple of quickies.

In Glasgow, the much anticipated second BrewDog has announced its much delayed launch.

Based at 99 Hutcheson Street, DogHouse opens to the public on Saturday 31 October.

In the unique marketing speak of BrewDog, the new venture will be a ‘triple threat’ featuring a craft beer bar; a BBQ and smoked food menu plus a BottleDog takeaway.

25 taps

This is a new concept from BrewDog: ‘a food-focused venue that celebrates beer at every turn. It will major in insanely good old-time barbecue food and smoked meat, an idea that many people have attempted but few have really nailed’.

There will be 25 taps pouring BrewDog and guest beers. If the weather is warm, there will be the option to sup them outside.

Global menu

On the other side of the M8, Checkpoint is getting its papers in order on Bristo Place, just off Bristo Square.

Having trialled as a pop-up during the Festival, it is now running on a permanent basis. Open from 9:30am to midnight, it is a quirky, chilled space that serves brunch, lunch, dinner and nibbles.

The menu takes its cue from around the globe. Typical dishes include smashed avocado and piperade with eggs; Louisiana-inspired lobster and pork scratching Po’ Boy sandwiches; paella Israeli cous cous and seafood salad plus Loch Etive sea trout escabeche.

Dishes are served mainly in solo or sharing style plates. All ingredients are locally and seasonally sourced where possible.

Checkpoint: shipping containers are this season’s feature wall, doncha know?
