New Glasgow restaurants in 2016

Prep Fitness Kitchen opens on Monday.

The 5pm Dining blog is going to knock off for 2015 with this post.

We hope all our readers have a tremendous Hogmanay and a tasty 2016.

Here are some new Glasgow places to look forward to over the next few months.

Prep Fitness Kitchen is a new protein and juice bar opening on 22 Bath Street this coming Monday.

Fitness-focused restaurant

Apparently, it will be a 60 seat fitness-focused restaurant. As this scribbler is built for comfort rather than speed, I’m not entirely sure what that means but guess that low fat, high protein dishes with oodles of vitamins and minerals will be involved.

Probably not a lot of chips.

Anyway, we’re sure it will be popular with regular gym bunnies and the rest of us who are looking back at the last two weeks worth of gin and cake with a mixture of guilt, regret and perverse pride.

We also understand that Scotland’s second branch of the Miller and Carter Steakhouse chain is to open on St Vincent Street soon.

There is already one at Edinburgh’s Cramond.

Rumour has it that The Spiritualist Bar and Kitchen will open on Miller Street in February but we can’t find out much more about it. We’ll report back when the Hogmanay fog has lifted.

Arcade games and craft beer

Even more speculative is this Kickstarter campaign for Super Bario, a new Glasgow bar which aims to mix classic arcade games with craft beers.

The bar is taking shape on King Street and will offer 80s and 90s arcade games such as Pac-Man, Super Mario Bros, Metal Slug, Moonwalker, Tekken 3, Mortal Kombat II, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Ridge Racer and Sega Rally.

Surely it’s only a matter of time before Glasgow’s first cereal cafe opens?

Until 2016.
