Dates for the diary: Glasgow Restaurant Festival

Tony Singh is among the chefs taking part in the Glasgow Restaurant Festival.

Given that Glasgow already has numerous festivals for comedy, books, films and assorted musical genres, it was only a matter of time before it announced a big ol’ restaurant festival.

Taking place 1–19 April, Glasgow’s first city-wide Restaurant Festival will have a number of strands.

As well as restaurants all over the city offering special set-price menus showcasing Glasgow’s vibrant dining scene, there will be food master classes and tastings.

Restaurant crawls

Organisers also promise restaurant crawls around areas such as Finnieston with diners dropping into different restaurants for one course before heading on to the next venue.

At the same time, Candleriggs Square in the Merchant City will host a vintage Spiegeltent seating up to 200.

Open 10am-10pm daily, it will be home to a busy series of restaurant pop-ups as well as live entertainment.

Porter and Rye, Burger Meats Bun, Gamba, Martin Wishart at The Honours, 111 by Nico, Red Onion and Tasty by Tony Singh are among the restaurants taking place.

We’ll have lots more info closer the actual festival.

Guerrilla dining

As a sort of pre-festival warm-up, there will be a programme of guerrilla dining in the Spiegeltent 25-31 March.

At the time of writing, details are sketchy but visitors can look forward to one Spiegeltent, one restaurant, one stage, three bars, live music and, rather more unexpectedly, a nine hole crazy golf course.

Sponsors include The List, People Make Glasgow, Belhaven Brewery and Glasgow Restaurant Association.
