How Chaophraya Glasgow's new menu is the Thai food of your dreams

Since Chaophraya Glasgow opened in Buchanan Street in 2012 it has firmly established itself as one of the most luxurious dining experiences in the city.

A marble floored hallway dotted with golden buddhas leads to the spectacular main dining room, a vast space which includes gold chandeliers, soaring ceilings covered in ornate cornicing, balconies, and curved leather banquettes.

The menu more than matches the surroundings, with an impressive selection of Thai curries, noodle dishes, salads, grill, soups and more, all of which have a fresh tropical flavour that evokes a sunkissed beach in Phuket.

Last week, Chaophraya Glasgow updated their a la carte menu to include new dishes such as sirloin steak cooked in Himalayan salt block and soft shell crab served on a bed of mango salad, (customer favourites such as Thai tacos and Phad Thai remained on the menu.)

When they invited the 5pm Food & Dining Blog along to sample it we were there faster than you can say sawadee. Here’s a run down of our experience.

We started our Chaophraya Glasgow dining experience with a cocktail. I plumped for the Mockingbird (Jinzu Gin, Maraschino, pink grapefruit juice, cherry and soda) which was served in a cage adorned with leaves.

For our starter, my colleague tried the soft shell crab and squid tempura, a brand new dish on the menu.

While I went for the vegetable spring rolls.

When it came to the main course there were plenty of options for something more adventurous but I could never resist my favourite Thai dish – good old Pad Thai.

While my colleague opted for another new dish on the menu – the sirloin steak which you cook yourself on a Himalayan salt block on your table!

After two delicious courses, we almost didn’t have room for dessert. Almost.

From the brand new dessert menu, we decided to share the sticky toffee pudding.

And the white chocolate box, a white chocolate mousse with a raspberry coulis centre and shortbread base served with macaroon, meringue and flowers.

It was a wonderful evening at Chaophraya Glasgow dining on delicious food in spectacular surroundings.

To experience Chaophraya Glasgow for yourself, at a lower price, 5pm Dining currently has a lunch offer priced at £14.50 for 2 courses.
