New street food market for Edinburgh: The Food and Flea

Food + Flea Market is a street food market which is taking shape on Edinburgh’s New Street.

Food + Flea Market is a street food market which is taking shape on Edinburgh’s New Street.

It’s just around the corner from The Arches development on East Market Street, home to places such as The Chop House, Vino Wines and Gannet and Guga.

Buzzy neighbourhood

Over the last couple of years, that area has gone from being a nondescript thoroughfare at the back of Waverley station into a buzzy neighbourhood with a distinct youthful vibe.

Currently in the middle of a soft opening, Food + Flea will be a 7/7 street food market in the heart of Edinburgh, just off the Royal Mile.

As well as a rotating roster of street food vendors, there will be a flea market on Saturdays and Sundays.

The street food market is the latest venture from the team behind 2016’s successful and ever growing Pitt Street Market in Leith.

New street food each month

The market’s local food vendors will change on a monthly basis.

During February, visitors to Food + Flea street food market can look forward to munchies from Rost, Barnacles and Bones, The Buffalo Truck, the Pizza Geeks and Knights Kitchen.

Barney’s Beer opens permanent bar

Naturally, guests will need something to help wash down all the street food.

Step forward Barney’s Beer.

Based up at Summerhall, Barney is often found dispensing his brews from a tuk tuk.

For Food + Flea, Barney is opening the micro-brewery’s first dedicated Barney’s bar, a permanent fixture at the market.

Along with guest beers, Barney’s Beer Bar will be serving up staples like Volcano IPA and Capital Porter plus trying out experimental concoctions.

Street food market at Buchanan Galleries

If venturing to the other end of the M8 seems too much of a hike, Glasgow residents may prefer to investigate the latest street food vendors at Taste Buchanan.

Buchanan Galleries recently welcomed street food vendors such as Shrimp Wreck and Sunshine Kitchen to the evolving street food market on the second floor.

Of course, there is still time to take advantage of the 5pm Dining Sale.

Offering two or three courses – sometimes with a drink as well – at many of Glasgow and Edinburgh’s favourite restaurants, the Dining Sale is a fantastic way to eat out without going into the red.
