Two Fat Ladies At The Buttery Is Surprising (In A Good Way)

Two Fat Ladies At The Buttery is one of the most luxurious, highly regarded restaurants in Glasgow. Dating back to 1856 (the Two Fat Ladies group took it over in 2007) it is the epitome of plush, with dark oak panelling, crisp white linen tablecloths, stained glass windows and a mahogany and marble bar. When you enter you are immediately overcome with its sense of history and the feeling you are in for a very special meal indeed.

Glasgow's Two Fat Ladies group is mostly associated with seafood and like many fine dining restaurants it traditionally prioritised meat and fish dishes. For that reason, being a vegetarian, I always assumedTwo Fat Ladies At The Buttery wouldn't suit me, much as I wanted to dine amongst its splendour. However, I recently discovered the restaurant has an entirely separate vegetarian and vegan menu with several options for each course. On learning this I booked a table for lunch faster than you can say vegetarian haggis.

Dining with me was a meat eater who picked the restaurant's non vegetarian/vegan options. Here's what we dined on:

Pork belly on julienne leek and spiced apricot compote with ginger and sesame seed sauce.

Oven grilled shallots, beetroot and apple salad with honey whipped goat's cheese.

Roast duck and wild pigeon with celeriac puree, puy lentils and cherry and wine vinegar jus.

Veggie haggis, sweet potato and thyme crust and roast fennel pesto (vegan).

Toffee and apple meringue crush with vanilla Chantilly cream.

Toasted granola, pistachio and cherry puree with raspberry and hibiscus sorbet.

Dine on the following offers at Two Fat Ladies At The Buttery on 5pm Dining:

£19 for 2 courses on the Early Evening Menu + glass of wine

£17.50 for 2 courses on lunch menu + soft drink, tea or coffee
