Edinburgh food news round-up

Rum festival plus sausage and cider festivals on the horizon plus a launch date for lux new Chinese restaurant.

Obviously, we are panting with anticipation of October's Sausage and Cider Fest which is taking place at Edinburgh Corn Exchange.

Who could say 'Nein' to a smoked bratwurst infused with cheese?

The festival takes place on the 19th of October and the blog will return to the subject nearer the time.

Meanwhile, we are girding our loins for The Rum Festival's return to Edinburgh this weekend.

Back for a third time, it will take place at Summerhall on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September.

Rum lovers are promised more than a hundred different rums, cocktails, dancing, new and exclusive rums, sampling from rum brands and the festival's much loved house bands.

Rum fun

On arrival, guests will be handed a rum festival glass (yours to keep) and a brochure full of information on all the rums you can try, fun facts about each of our suppliers and the suggested garnish to compliment your drink. Main pic above, taken from festival Facebook, shows the festival when in Chester.

This year, the rums are grouped into categories: Modern, Spiced and Flavoured, Aged and Something Different

You will need to purchase drinks tokens to taste the rums. These will be available from a stand in the main hall. The drinks tokens are £5 each and the '100' Rums include a mixer of your choice and fresh garnish.

There will also be rum cocktails at £8 each and lots of rum brands will be on hand to tell you about their spirits and offering samples. A minimum of ten free samples are included with each ticket.

This year the Rum Festival will see more of their new favourite Scottish rum brands, as well as some of organiser Lucy’s favourites – including Sugarhouse, Wester Rums and Old J.

Throughout the event there will be live entertainment and dancing plus finger-lickin' food to buy.

Tickets.

Tattu is a pretty picture

We also note that Tattu, the very eye-catching Chinese restaurant taking shape on West Register Street, aims to officially open to the public on Friday 8 November.

Obviously, looks aren't everything but check this:
